Father blaming politicians for shady death of daughter shares new evidence

A father who claims his 11-year-old daughter was killed in a hit and run accident involving relatives of a member of Turkey’s ruling AK Party (AKP) has shared new evidence on social media supporting his allegations.

In April 2018, Saban Vatan’s daughter Rabia Naz was found dead in front of her house in Eynesil, a town in the northern Turkish province of Giresun.

Although  Turkish police declared her death a suicide immediately afterward, Rabia’s father believes that she was killed in a hit and run and that critical evidence related to the incident has been overlooked.

After investigating Rabia’s death himself,  Vatan alleged that she was hit by a car driven by the relatives of then Eynesil mayor from the governing AKP.

She was then left in front of her house, and the accident was covered up by authorities, including Turkey’s then-deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli, Vatan further claimed.

The father has shared on Twitter a report by Turkey’s Ankara Criminal Police Laboratory, which provides scientific proof for the car tire-marks on the clothes Rabia wore on the day she died.

“Officials, explain this to me now. … It is [stated in an] official [report] that they found car tire marks on the dress. …What happened to your argument that there’s no chance this incident could involve a car,” Vatan tweeted.

Stating that Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor Abdurrahim Alan previously confirmed that the dust on the dress disappeared, later on, Vatan added: “Find the person who cleaned the dress immediately and bring him/her forward. How did the dust, which was there [on the dress] before, disappeared?”

Vatan asked everybody on Twitter to also share the newly-posted evidence of tire marks on Rabia’s dress “since a new operation might be carried out any moment to silence him.”

While fighting to bring public attention to shed light on the death of his 11-year-old daughter, Vatan has been briefly detained several times and was taken to a psychiatric clinic in March over suspected mental health issues.

Journalists Canan Coskun and Kazim Kizil, who were also detained while they were following the case together with a commission consisting of members of the Turkish parliament on November 13, were released the next day.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu had insisted in a statement back in November that “they have not found the slightest evidence backing the father’s claims” that Rabia Naz was killed in a hit and run.
