Three of ten people seeking refugee status in Norway are Turkish.
This is according to a report published by the Norwegian government, focusing on 2018.
Because of an excellent record of safety and welfare, Norway is one of the countries receiving a high number of asylum applications.
Norwegian media often reports on the high influx of refugees from Turkey, underlining that the numbers increased after the July 15 coup attempt.
Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark often get the highest number of asylum applications in the world for both political and humanitarian reasons.
Turks surpassed Syrians
Due to the increase in applications from Turkish citizens, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) announced in June 2017 that applications will be subject to a more careful and detailed examination.
The number of asylum seekers who sought asylum in Norway from Turkey in 2018 rose to 765. This number is recorded as 419 for Syrians, 241 for Eritrean citizens and 119 for Iranian citizens.
During the year, most applications from Turks was in June. Five people in January and over 216 people in June sought asylum in the Scandinavian country.
