Kayserispor stops Fenerbahçe’s revival

For the past two weeks, Fenerbahçe had managed to scramble two consecutive wins on the trot and it looked like it would be working its way out of the relegation zone.

Any such thoughts of a revival fortunes came to a grinding halt as İstikbal Mobilya Kayserispor FC put one past the Canaries on Friday in the 21st week of the Süper Lig

With this 2-0 loss, Fenerbahçe has dropped to 13th on the table.

Kayserispor’s striker Artem Kravets’ strike in the  87th minute was the difference.

Fenerbahçe striker Roberto Soldado was handed red card two minutes into extra time at the end of the first half.

Canaries and Kayserispor sweated it out to no avail with the first half ending scoreless.

A Kayserispor goal by striker Umut Bulut in the 62nd minute was disallowed following a VAR (Video Referee Application) inspection that had revealed an earlier foul.

In the 87th minute, a ball in from the left wing was met by a Kravets header that went past the keeper.

The match was not without its drama as Tolgay Arslan first received a yellow card when he was on the pitch, his continued objections to referee Alper Ulusoy’s decisions after the game saw him being given a red, much to the anger of Canaries fans.

The loss was the first for winged Victor Moses since his arrival on loan from Chelsea.

He too was handed a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Fenerbahce finished with 10-men following a red card issued to former Spanish international, Roberto Soldado.

Kayserispor’s means they have leapfrogged Fenerbahçe to 25 points while the Canaries stay at the 23 points.
