Germany looks for 260 thousand workers every year

According to a survey, the shortfall of qualified employees in Germany is expected to increase in the upcoming years. If the fertility rate remains stable in the country, Europe’s industrial giant, Germany, has to accept approximately 260 thousand immigrants every year until the year 2060.

The survey conducted by the Bertelsmann Foundation has revealed that the qualified employee deficit will increase in the following years in Germany, the most industrialised nation of the European continent.

Low fertility rate increases foreign manpower needed in Germany

According to Hurriyet Daily reporter Ali Varli, the low fertility rate will result in the need to bring qualified employees in from abroad, and if the fertility rate does not increase, Germany will have to accept around 260 thousand immigrant employees every year till 2060.

Germany finds only 114 thousand potential employees in EU countries every year

Experts in Germany say the country could only find a maximum of 114,000 employees from countries in the European Union (EU), and because of this, they will have to start looking for employees outside the EU countries. Immigrants from other EU countries are expected to decrease in the coming years amid the population decline, therefore Germany is in need of more non-EU workers.

Between the years 2036 and 2050, Germany will require almost 170,000 immigrants from other countries per year, and between the years 2051 and 2060, the number will rise to 200,000 immigrants needed per year, according to the survey.

In the survey’s conclusion, it is predicted that if Germany does not accept immigrant employees from other countries, the population will fall to around 16 million by 2060.
